ECBOE to Host "A Parenting Journey"

Renowned author/presenter Dr. H. Wallace Goddard will present a free parenting seminar next month for the parents of Elmore County.  On March 7th at 6:15 p.m., Dr. Goddard will share what he calls "A Parenting Journey" at The First Baptist Church of Wetumpka.

Raising a child is an exciting journey, but like any journey, it presents challenges.  Dr. Goddard will share practical and simple ideas about how to make the family journey more satisfying and enjoyable.  Because parents are often unsure of how well they are performing in their job as "guide," he will ask questions that help mothers and fathers assess how well they are doing and provide suggestions on how they can build upon their strengths to improve.

Dr. Goddard served as Extension Specialist at Auburn University for six years.  During that time he studied teen behavior, developed a widely-used parenting program, participated with a national team to develop a model of parent education, and created a respected youth development program called The Great Self Mystery.  He took leave from Auburn to help Stephen Covey write "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Families."  After that project was completed, he returned to extension work at the University of Arkansas where he has worked with public television to develop a series entitled Guiding Children Successfully.  Goddard is the author of many books that center on the building of strong family relationships, including The Soft Spoken Parent and The Marriage Garden: Cultivating your Relationship so it Grows and Flourishes.

The ECBOE is pleased to be able to offer this unique opportunity to parents of all children in Elmore County.  "It is a pleasure to have Dr. Goddard sharing his insights and wisdom with us here in Elmore County. What a gift to our families here! I urge families to attend this special event. You will be delighted that you came. I assure you this event will be time well spent and you will be better equipped to navigate current and future challenges with your children."

For more information regarding the event, you may contact the ECBOE Parent Involvement Specialist, Georgia Pinkston at or call (334)567-1200, extension 24005.
