Dear Holtville Middle School Family,

I am excited to begin the 2018-2019 school year with you and your child. This year, we have elected to create pod systems within our school. Each pod will consist of four teachers in each core academic area: English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Science. The pods are similar to the "pairs" and "three-ways splits" we have had in 5th and 6th grades in past years.

These teacher pods will enable teachers and students to make more effective connections, and will provide for a block schedule for the core academic courses, thereby increasing academic achievement, collaboration among teachers, and overall student success. Teachers and students will have an increased amount of time in each of their classes, providing more opportunity for advanced enrichment, intervention, projects, and group work. Students will also not have elective courses this year, but will be engaged fully in the core academic content that will best prepare them for success in high school and beyond. Band/Choir, Office and Library Aide assignments, and supplemental intervention services will take place as a portion of P.E.

I look forward to kicking off this all-star year! I know that my staff and students at Holtville Middle School are All-Stars, and I anticipate great things from our changes this year.
